Skip do’s

Load it safely, follow the guidelines, and keep things simple.

Stick to our simple Do’s and Don’ts and you will have a hassle-free clear-out.

Fill to level load

Always ensure your skip is filled evenly, without items stacked above the rim. Overfilled skips cannot be safely collected and may result in additional charges or delays.

Disposing of furniture

Most household furniture, such as chairs, tables, and shelves, can go in your skip. Keeping items flat or breaking them down helps maximise space and ensures a safe, level load.

Keep on private property

Placing your skip on private land, like a driveway or garden, avoids the need for a council permit and simplifies delivery. It also helps ensure quick access for drop-off and collection, reducing the risk of delays or extra fees. Always make sure the location is accessible, and clear of obstacles.

Acquire permits if necessary

If you need to place your skip on public land, such as a road, pavement or communal areas, a permit is required. We will arrange this to ensure your skip hire is compliant and avoids any unnecessary delays or fines.

Skip don’ts

Avoid common errors during your skip hire to ensure a smooth process

These simple steps will ensure you do not receive any unnecessary fees and complications, for an efficient and hassle-free experience.

Overfill the skip

Never fill your skip above the rim, as overfilled skips cannot be safely collected. Overfilling may result in extra charges, delays. Each skip has a level load marker to indicate the level it can be safely filled to.

Place your skip on public land without a permit

Do not move the skip once the driver has placed it. Making sure your skip is located on private property will simplify the process and avoid additional permit costs.

Include restricted items

Avoid placing restricted items in your skip, such as chemicals, asbestos, or electrical items. These items require specialist disposal and could delay the collection or incur extra charges if incorrectly disposed of.

Block access to the skip

Avoid obstructing the area around the skip. Make sure it is clear for both delivery and collection, so our team can access it easily without delays. Ensuring access will help avoid additional fees or complications.
